Where's my golden ticket?

It's been a while since I last read Roald Dahl books...They're the epitome of a whangfizzdoodling gobsmacker aka a medley of everything wonderful and creative in this world. I used to remember the times when as a kid, I used to have a thumping heart eager with excitement when I got my hands on a Roald Dahl book. Charlie & the chocolate factory and Fantastic Mr Fox will always be my darlings of the lot. Ahhh some things are a classic. And Roald Dahl's books in my opinion, are the REAL classics. When was the last time you read a Dahl book and got comfortably lost in a fun alternate reality where anything seemed possible, even the most preposterous things, like the existence of say, an all access glass elevator and an entire factory of mouthwatering chocolate in amusement park style?!

Thinking of the quirky characters and the solid moral lessons in his non-presumptuous style , gives me hope and cheer on a bad day...

Donald Hall's Collection of Everyday Poetry

I guess poetry( i know alot of people think it's just emotional bullshit expressed through winding words. Screw them then. They don't LIVE) is like an anchor that pulls down to earth all the fuzzy, vague, beginnings of thoughts that cannot be expressed through solid information, and binds them in a universal tongue: feelings and relativity.

I was reading this collection of poems by Donald Hall( a famous American poet) who scourged all the hidden gems from across the country by fishing through magazines and what not.

I extracted some parts from pieces that I really really liked. Here they are:

From Voyage by Suzanne Gardinier

"...I aimed the vessel's battered chin into the fists of green waves without number and did not let the emptiness encumber my loneliness's efforts at creation."

" Of course I'd killed nothing but as i stood barefoot in my own blood, awed,I could not escape the shamed pride of a butcher: smeared withh death, alive, exultant, sure beyond words...
that murder and nourishment are fierce comrades"

From Movie By Patricia Storace

" These dreams framed in the metal of what's real
a silence perfected by voices,
the smoky erotic twilight when the house lights dim
And the world emerges en neglige
And as it moves toward us through gauzy blue,
We glimpse its nudity in the form of stories,
When we live here, everything we want to happen, does
without becoming history."

" To be adult and still unborn is one kind of ideal
Here attention's prenatal, velvet, wall-to-wall
And life's doubled, flesh is flesh's symbol,
A jewel worn on the wrist and in the eye,
Diamond in the day, diamond again in a dream,
The best thing yet we've fashioned from the dark,
these angels of our thought on screen.
We watch them raptly as we watch our dead,
the little candles of remembered gestures lit,
loved features we live by, again and again.
Again.Again."

The fat house cat and twilight

Sorry I've been getting a little too carried away by the Twilight saga. I guess it's like the new Harry Potter madness all over again. As much as I do abhor anything mainstream, the hopeless (closet)romantic in me( i know eeew but what the heck)overrode the "abhor mainstream" mantra I normally hold sacred.

I think the appeal of the movie comes not only from the lull of the unorthodox, an almost impossible love( the love is blind theory) between a vampire and a mortal but from the strength of the characters. Stephanie Meyer has accomplished the impossible...making a vampire love story relatable, honest and sincere.

It's rugged charm pulls off successfully what would otherwise have been another sappy formula for a romance. The rugged charm and the complexity of the characters especially Edward and Bella and their battles with their inner selves and respective societies' unspoken rules against their coupling makes the story one of a kind...And the characters' frustration and longing for each other even more vivid and real.

And the soundtrack is just whangfizzdoodlingly awesome. My favourite number from the movie is the song played during the prom dance scene by Iron and Wine called Flightless Bird American Mouth. It could make the most cynical sadistic chronic love haters(like me) melt. I know i'll be over it soon but im all up for the refreshing ride while it lasts.

Just as im finishing this sentence im preparing to read the sequel to Twilight, New Moon and i can't wait to secretly(Oops not so secret now is it? Haha)indulge in the everyday girl's fancy that she can kick Bella away and be in her place with Edward...
